Coaching Trip

January 23rd, 2012

Posted by Arden Wallace

Every year my husband goes out of town for five days in January for a soccer coach’s convention. The first few years he went I actually enjoyed my time alone while he was gone. I rented girl movies and got takeout and just relaxed. Now that we have two kids, any time that my husband goes away, it is a lot more stressful than it used to be. I knew that I was going to be exhausted by the time he got back at the end of the trip this year. Our daughter just started crawling and our son is in the middle of his terrible twos. I told my husband that before he left I would feel much safer if we got a home security system since I would be home alone with the kids while he was gone. He thought it was a good idea and searched online for “security system pennslyvania” and found one that he thought would be a good fit for our situation. I was really ready for him to be home from his trip. Not only was I exhausted from taking care of our kids alone, but I also missed him a lot.

Break from Work

December 11th, 2011

Content by Otto Murphy

It’s been really nice having a break from work but I think by the time school starts next year I’ll be ready to think about getting another job just to get out of the house if not for any other reason. I think it’s great I’ve had so much time to watch my www.tvbydirect.com channels and get back into reading but there are some things that if unused go limp and I happen to think your brain is one of them. My mom used to tell me that a woman’s work was never done but she was a housewife and I’m just not sure if I’m cut out for that kind of life, to tell you the truth. I think there’s something special about being in the working world even when you have children and though I know I’m going to feel really guilty going back to work it’s going to be nice not to be so concerned about what’s happening with the kid’s shows and how to build a better LEGO house, you know what I mean?

Pop Up Video

October 10th, 2011

Thanks for the post from Lynn Guy

The other morning, I was flipping through the channels on DIRECT TV trying to decide what I was going to leave on in the background while I cleaned my house. Much to my surprise, I came across Pop-up Video on VH1; I didn’t know that this show was still on the air! Granted, it may have been a rerun, but I didn’t care. This was one of my favorite shows of all time. Generally, I don’t watch music videos. There’s a girl at work who is always asking me if I’ve seen this video or that video and my answer is always no. I just don’t find them all that interesting. However, when you add in little pop-up bubbles of information about the video, I can watch for hours. The show includes all kinds of facts ranging from random information about the artist to behind the scenes stories that happened during the making of the video. It’s almost like a little history lesson. I try my hardest not to watch mindless television, so it makes me feel better to watch a show where I’m learning something, regardless of the fact that the knowledge I gain is insignificant.

Liking the Torchwood reboot

July 25th, 2011

Guest post written by Rita Brentmeyer

I was really skeptical when I first heard that there would be a reboot of the Doctor Who spinoff, Torchwood. See, I’m a really big Doctor Who fan, so I gave Torchwood a try and really like it too. I mean, it’s no Doctor Who, but Torchwood is pretty good too. I was worried about it, but now that I watched it, I think that they’re doing a really good job with it.

I looked up everything that I could find about the reboot before it aired. One night right before the premiere I was doing that and I ran across the website Clear-Internet.com. I looked through it some and after that I showed it to my roommate and decided to change over our home internet service to it.

I think that the plot line that they’ve come up with, something that’s affecting the whole Earth was a good way to tie it into the American and the American audience. It’s a classic Doctor Who go-to, but it always works so well! Doctor Who has been around for so long for a good reason!

A Little Bit Of French Pastry

A Little Bit Of French Pastry

Guest post from: Natalie Walter

Every now and then, we have a “dessert night.” I’m not usually much of a sweet tooth, but there’s this little French cafe in town that serves this super yummy fruit pastry that I love. Sometimes I get a craving for it, and nothing else will do.

Last night was one of those nights when I needed some French pastry. I had to have it.

“Bob,” I said, “we have to have pastry!” And I grabbed him by the arm, deftly set our home security alarm (Home-alarm-systems.com/) with my other hand, and off we went.

But, oh the horror–when we arrived, the place was closed! I’m pretty sure I actually had my nose pressed up against the glass door at one point, trying to see whether anyone was inside.

“Come on, let’s just go home,” Bob said to me.

But I wouldn’t. I had to have some French pastry. I whipped out the GPS and tried to find another French restaurant. I actually did find one I’d never heard of before, and we went. They didn’t have pastry. But we did stay for dessert anyway, and I tried a lemon tart which pretty good.

I just wish I could have had my dose of pastry. Now I’ll have to eat two next time we go to the cafe!
