Do/can high body temperatures in women kill sperm?

hudson2_5 asked:

I do KNOW that if a man’s body temp is too high or if the scrotum is too hot most of the time due to tight undies, that it can cause impotence or a man to shoot “blanks”, kill sperm or whatnot. But I was TOLD by a friend of mine that if I sit in a tub of tolerable hot water for 20-30 min immediately after sex to raise my body’s temp, I could kill the sperm and not get pregnant. LOL! That sounds ridiculous, and I can understand how she could come up with that, but is that really possible??? Could that really work?

To me, that just seems like wishful thinking. LOL I doubt you can sit in a tub of hot water after sex just to avoid getting pregnant. Maybe try condoms or BC pills instead? lol

Yes! High temperatures can kill sperm. That is why the scrotum is located outside the body — to keep sperm cooler. So, it’s a good idea for a man to avoid hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms when a couple is trying to become pregnant. Hot tubs may also be detrimental for women during early pregnancy. Significant elevations in core body temperature (greater than 101.5) may be toxic to the embryo. So women attempting to conceive should avoid hot tubs.

Please don’t do this if you’re already pregnant.

no this cant really work. the only way not to get pregnant is abstinance and next closest thing would be protection. and fyi…tight undies more times then not causes low sperm count…it does not however “kill” the sperm.

Sweetie I heard of that too but unfortunately there is not enough evidence of this thesis. No studies are backed up by this so to be on the safe side don’t put any of it into practice. Just do it the traditional way and use protection.
Thank God man made so many different types of ways to protect yourself and information isn’t hard to obtain just ask your PCP. Contraception, responsible choice-making and good old fashion “ABSTENANCE” are good tips.
    So good luck with that.
