Is it possible to die of old age?
Big Sexy asked:
You always hear from people that their friend/relative has died due to old age, is this actually possible, or do other illnesses cause death because the body is so fragile?

Scientifically, no it’s not possible. But in conversation, this is real. When people age, certain functions of their body stop working, or stop working as well. For example, sight, hearing, ability to walk, etc. Those are annoying things, but they wont kill you. When things like your immune system fail though, kidneys need dialisis, natural things like dementia and alzheimers that come from the mind not working, etc. kick in, then people can die naturally. So, they’re not dying from old age, but they’re dying from afflictions that come naturally with old age

It’s everyone’s end wish to die of old age, and not in some crappy accident or disease!
That’s what they mean ‘died of old age’. People cannot specify in the same sentence what organ failed them, it’s unnecessary when the person is very old. Their body failed them either entirely, or some part. My boyfriend’s grandpa died exactly of old age. One day he could not stand anymore, then he lied in bed, but no specific pain. He was just too weak – his arms, legs, strength needed to speak went lower and lower. That’s it!

People don’t really die of old age, they technically die from a heart attack or other disease/condition once their body is too old and fragile to naturally defend itself from health problems anymore.

eventually your brain and heart give way because of tiredness, your organs can only work for about 100 years at one of the best before they rest forever. so yes its old age its because your body gives in and it cant work properly anymore, like an old car i suppose

I don’t think its possible to die of old age because they always have another more specific reason for why they die so i think they die cause of your second reason

lol, well you don’t die because your 80. It basically just means that yes the body got so old and weak that it couldn’t hold on anylonger. When my grandma died, they all just said it was old age. I accually still don’t know if she had a heart attack or what, but i’ll find out. I guess some people die in their sleep, but their heart just stops then. But you don’t die because your body knows that you are old. it gets fragile.

It’s true that you’re not likely to die of old age rather than the body failures/dysfunctions/disease that come with old age, but Techincally your genes age also-It’s like a video tape that after using a lot or recording and re-recording on it, gets old and tired and is of no use anymore. Nothing physically happened to the tape for this to happen other than it just being USED too much (thus the reason why cloning in the end isn’t really that helpful).
So yes, technically after a certain point, if you managed to keep everything healthy, you would die because the genes have gotten too old.
