The easy way is to take it someone who does these. After the car is checked over, you will receive an official sheet of paper telling you what has been checked and if it passed or not.

If there were things that needed repair or replacement it will be on that list.

Some of the basics are, brakes, lights, steering, tyres, windscreen, exhaust, under carriage, seat belts, engine mounts, rust,, seats, door locks – it can be quite a comprehensive list.

Some auto repair places will do a check for you, listing the things they can see that need fixing. but it will be unofficial at that point.

You will need the check done by a qualified roadworthy mechanic and have the paper checked off to show that it is all OK.

If it is being registered for the first time in your name it will probably be checked over again by some one at your motor vehicle registration office.
